Vol.38 Keep the customer first

Kazuo Inamori (Founder of Kyocera and KDDI, Honorary Chairman of JAL) stated the followings regarding customer-first principle. It is important to create new products one after another with value that will please customers. An attitude is required to completely meet the needs of customers by overriding the conventional concepts. (Source: Kyocera Philosophy)

I agree exactly. This is an important idea that is common to all industries. You may think that you have to be more respectful to customers when you hear that customer-first principle, but Mr. Inamori’s customer-first principle is to make customers happy. It is true that not only advanced technology, but also delivery time, quality, price, new product development etc matter to the customers in order to continue business. This fact overlaps with the image of growing with customers. It is the best way of business to work hard for the customers and grow the business results. Even with requests from customers for price reductions, we can learn from Mr. Inamori’s stance that he has taken on all sorts of measures, including cost reductions, to enhance product competitiveness.

Even at the restaurant I run, the costs increase every year, so I have basically absorbed them by cutting costs. Furthermore, in order to increase customer satisfaction, we have regularly been introducing new products with higher added value. Our restaurant space is very limited so that we needed more flexibility and imagination not to slow down the speed of service. We believe that our customer-first principle has long been supported by our customers regardless of intense competition with other restaurants.
