Vol.23 能力を未来進行形でとらえる
稲盛和夫氏（京セラとKDDIの創業者でJALの名誉会長）は、新たな目標を立てるときは、あえて自分の能力以上のものに設定し、その目標に対応できるようになるまで、現在の自分の能力を高める方法を考えなければならないと、説いておられる。
これは稲盛氏の最も大切な教えの一つであり、京セラの急成長を支えた考えである。人は基本的に変化を恐れるため、挑戦を避け、保守的になる。ただ、ビジネスの世界では、現状維持は退歩を意味し、自分の能力を日々進化させていかなければ、厳しい競争を生きのびることはできない。人は何かに挑戦することで、能力が無限に開花していくのだ。まずは、自分にはできると、自分の可能性を信じることが必要なのである。そこから最大限の努力を積み重ねていくことで、自ら道が拓けていくのである。
普段、忙しすぎて、やりたくても新しいことにチャレンジできていないのであれば、もっと効率の良い方法がないか、仕事のやり方を見直してみるのも一つの手だ。大きなことにチャレンジするのが不安なら、小さなことから始めてみるのもありだろう。何かに取り組むのに、遅過ぎるということはない。今すぐに始めて、試行錯誤しながら目標に近づいていくのが近道になると思う。自分の能力はどんどん伸びていくことを前提に、自分の人生設計をしてみるのはとてもエキサイティングなことではないだろうか？

Vol.23 Understand abilities will improve
Mr. Kazuo Inamori (Founder of Kyocera and KDDI as well as Honorary Chairman of JAL) is saying that when setting a new goal, dare to set it more than your ability. Then think of ways to improve your ability until you can achieve that goal.
This is one of Mr. Inamori’s most important teachings, and this idea has supported Kyocera’s rapid growth thanks to his leadership. People are basically afraid of changes, so they tend to avoid challenges and become conservative. However, in the business world, maintaining the status quo means a step back, and if you do not evolve your abilities every day, you cannot survive the severe competitions. Only by challenging something new, one’s ability will improve indefinitely. First of all, you need to believe in your potential as much as you can. By making the utmost efforts from there, you can find our way.
I know you’re always too busy, but if you want to work on something big, it’s better to find a more efficient way to change your current work style. If you’re worried about taking on something too big, you might start with something small instead. It’s never too late to work on something new, but you should start it right now. Then you’ll get closer to your goal gradually on a trial-and-error basis. Isn’t it exciting to design your life on the assumption that your ability will continue to grow?
