Vol.57 真面目に一生懸命仕事に打ち込む
稲盛和夫氏（京セラとKDDIの創業者、JALの名誉会長）は、仕事をおろそかにして、遊びや趣味の世界で喜びを見出そうとしても、一時的には楽しいかもしれませんが、決して真の喜びを得ることはできません。真面目に一生懸命仕事に打ち込み、何かを成し遂げたときにこそ、他には代えがたい喜びが得られるのです、と述べておられる。
私も全く同感だ。私は会社員時代も忙しかったが、責任の比では独立してからの方が圧倒的に大きく、おかげで大変ではあるものの、充実した日々を過ごすことができている。実際、会社員時代はストレス発散のために、余暇を充実させようと旅行やグルメ、スポーツ観戦を楽しんだものだ。一方、独立してからは、徐々に仕事の比重が大きくなり、１年中休みなしに仕事をしていると言ってもいいくらい、仕事漬けの日々を送ってきた。家族サービスの時間を取ってはいるが、友人と飲みに行く機会は激減した。一方、仕事のために健康に留意し始めたことがきっかけで、ジョギングなどの定期的な運動を取り入れてはいる。
独立してからは、私の場合、寝ても覚めても仕事中心の生活であるが、非常に充実していると言える。毎年売上が伸び、従業員の数も徐々に増え、私としては忙しくなる一方ではあったが、ビジネスのより良い成果を求め、日々努力することがやはり楽しいのだ。自分の限界に挑戦することが出来るのがビジネスの醍醐味であろう。１日２４時間を、どれだけ有意義に使い成果に結びつけられるか、日々、自分との戦いである。
Vol.57 Dedicated to work seriously
Mr. Kazuo Inamori (founder of Kyocera and KDDI, Honorary Chairman of JAL) says that you may be temporarily fun if you neglect your work and try to find joy in the world of play and hobbies, but you can never get true joy. He states that only when you devote yourself to your work seriously and accomplish something, you will have irreplaceable joy.
I totally agree. I was busy when I was a stockbroker, but my responsibilities have increased overwhelmingly larger since I became independent, and thanks to that, I am able to spend more fulfilling days although it is not easy. In fact, when I was a businessman, I enjoyed traveling, gourmet food, and watching sports in order to relieve stress. On the other hand, since I became independent, the weight of my work has gradually increased, and I have spent my days immersed in work to the extent that I can say that I work all year round. Although I’m taking time for family service, the chances of going out for a drink with my friends have dropped dramatically. On the other hand, I started to pay attention to my health for work, so I started to take regular exercise such as jogging.
Since becoming independent, in my case, my life has been centered on work whether I sleep or wake up, but honestly it is very fulfilling. In fact, our sales have grown every year, the number of employees has gradually increased, and while I’ve been busy, it’s still fun to work hard every day for better business results. The real thrill of business is that you can push your limits. It is a battle against myself to see how meaningfully I can use 24 hours a day and connect it to results.
