Vol.53 Always cheerful

Mr. Kazuo Inamori (Founder of Kyocera and KDDI, Honorary Chairman of JAL) says that everyone is supposed to have a wonderful and hopeful life. The prerequisite to improve the results of your work and life is to act cheerfully and proactively with hope for one’s bright future.

I think this is an encouraging teaching for many, but what about to you? Are you a little pessimistic or serious? You can change the way of thinking from today if you want. One of my favorite words is “Regarding life, everything is just a scratch other than death”. This is the words of Mr. Kosuke Minowa of Gentosha. I interpret it as ” You may encounter lots of difficulties through your life, but everything is minor as long as you are alive.” I would like to introduce my recent experience that applies to this. I was practicing a bike for a triathlon race near San Francisco. However, the door of a parked car suddenly opened, and when I collided into the door, I flew into the air and landed on my head. I was treated for half a year with full body bruise. Unfortunately, I needed to cancel the scheduled race, and because of the pain, I could barely get up from the bed for the first few weeks and could hardly do my job accordingly.

If I were unlucky, I would have been dead or in a critical condition. However, my helmet saved my life. In addition, I didn’t have fractures because I protected myself instantly like a judo player does. In fact, I practiced judo when I was a high school student. Also, my restaurant kept open without me thanks to my employees’ hard work. I tried to see these positive points as much as I could. I managed to overcome adversity, and I’m thankful for being alive.

I wanted to blame this careless driver in the beginning, but I realized that doing such a thing wouldn’t help me at all.

Originally, I have a serious personality, but in fact, I try to behave cheerfully in public. When I behave cheerfully, I feel that the way of thinking becomes optimistic. In this way, my pessimism can be suppressed to a smaller portion, making me easier to try something new, resulting in a wider range of experiences and results. Always believing that your life will be full of a great fortune, and with all your efforts, everyone can bring in a great future.
